- 1 Clean Kitchen Towel
- 1 Rolling Pin
- 1 Cast Iron or Skillet
Ingredients
- ¾ Cup Warm Water
- 2 tsp. Yeast
- 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
- 1 tbsp. Sugar or Honey
- 1 tsp. Salt
- 2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
Instructions
Let's Make Our Dough
- Our first step is to activate our yeast. In our small mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Add your yeast on top and gently stir in until just combined.
- Place your clean towel over the bowl and let rest for 5-10 minutes. When your time is up it should look frothy like.
- In your large mixing bowl, whisk together your flour and salt. Once combined make a well in the center for your wet ingredients to be added.
- Add your yeast mixture and olive oil to your dry ingredients. Start stirring to combine ingredients into dough form.
- Once your dough is forming, it's time to knead. Place your dough onto a lightly floured surface. Start kneading your dough for about 5-10 minutes. You want the reach a smooth and elastic dough.
- Place your dough into a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a damp towel and let rise in a warm place, until dough has doubled in size. This process should take around an hour.
Time to Prep for the Oven
- Once your dough has doubled in size, it's time to shape. Punch down your dough and divide into 8 equal pieces.
- Using your hands and a rolling pin, roll each piece into a ¼ inch thick and into a circler shape.
- Once you have achieved the desired shape, place the shaped pitas on a lightly floured surface and cover with a towel. Let rise for an additional 10-15 minutes.
Time to Cook our Pitas
- Using your cast iron or skillet on your stove top, heat on medium-high heat. Place a pita in your pan and let cook for 30-40 seconds. Then flip and cook and additional 30-40 seconds. Your pita may puff up, this is completely normal. You want to achieve a light golden brown look on both sides. Cook pitas one at a time for the best outcome.
- Be careful and watch your pan heat. It may become too hot, turn the heat down if you notice your pita is starting to burn faster than cooking.
- Wrap your cooked pitas in a clean kitchen towel during your cooking process. This will help keep them soft. Serve and Enjoy! These are prefect for wraps or to eat with dips.
